Collaborations with Carmen Neely
It began with an exquisite corpse practice, a game invented in the early 18th century by Surrealists. Each player or collaborator adds collected words or images to a composition in sequence. In this practice we have created a visually documented conversation, a dialogue of continuous line, shape, pattern and color. The layered collage and mark making reference two very distinct voices that coexist to create new narratives. In this work various combinations of textured wallpaper, blueprints, and documents from two separate routes of travel and experience intertwine. The resulting compositions challenge each contributor, as well as viewer, to respond to visual cues in a way that mimics collective storytelling.
